OPEC offers Russia closer cooperation

The Organization of Oil-producing Countries (OPEC) tries to convince Russia to a closer cooperation. For this reason, Saudi Arabia proposed granting Russia observer status. A Russian representative confirmed the offer to the press: "This option exists and is under consideration. We are currently studying this question carefully," said the confidant of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

$800 billion energy infrastructure investment over the next 18 years in the US and Canada

The Interstate Natural Gas Association of America (INGAA) has issued an updated 2016 infrastructure report which depicts the massive changes in store for energy infrastructure in the United States and Canada. INGAA Foundation President Don Santa says "while we are now in the midst of a remarkable expansion of the pipeline network ... there will remain a need for new pipeline infrastructure.

New Gas Pipelines Planned for Australia

Australia is embarking on a major $140 million infrastructure project, building a gas processing facility and a 60-km pipeline for the growing domestic market. It will connect Senex’s Atlas gas field in the Surat Basin in south-east Queensland to Jemena’s existing Darling Downs pipeline and Australia’s largest single gas hub – the Wallumbilla gas hub.

German gas TSOs plan to invest €7 billion for natural gas pipelines until 2028

The German gas transmission system operators (TSOs) have submitted their draft for a Gas Network Development Plan in Germany. The document sets out the TSOs’ detailed plans for the future development of the German network to ensure a secure supply of natural gas in the period to 2028.

Turkish pipeline construction companies likely to get the nod for building a new Kirkuk-Ceyhan connection

Signaling its preference for Turkish pipeline construction companies to build the new 970-km Kirkuk - Ceyhan export oil pipeline, the Iraqi central government appealed last week for Turkish companies to participate in the pipeline project. Project finance will be along the lines of a Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) model, which will mitigate risk for the cash-strapped Iraqi government.

Russia to Finance a Feasibility Study on Building a Multibillion Dollar Gas Pipeline from Iran to Pakistan

Making headway on an idea that has been discussed for at least a decade, Russia and Pakistan have reached a preliminary agreement to build a multibillion dollar offshore pipeline for the transport of Iranian gas to Pakistan and possibly to India.

While the agreement has yet to codified in an official written document, observers believe this will soon happen.

Iraq / Iran Sign Major Oil Swap Deal

In the first oil deal of its kind since Iraqi forces re-established control over Kirkuk in the northern part of the country earlier this year, Iraq has agreed to swap 60,000 barrels of oil per day for Iranian oil. The oil will be delivered by tanker truck to the border area of Kermanshah, where Iran has a refinery. Iran will deliver an equal amount of oil to Iraq's southern ports in Basra.

East Med Pipeline To Boost Europe's Energy Security

In yet another effort to enhance European energy security by diversifying sources away from Russia, a consortium of countries including Cyprus, Italy, Greece and Israel will build an 1900 km gas pipeline from the Levantine Basin in the eastern Mediterranean to Greece and Italy in 2025.
