Pakistan is in a diplomatic engagement with Iran to avert a potential fine over the completion of the Pakistan-Iran gas pipeline, which has faced many years of delays.

According to government sources, Islamabad is seeking to resolve the dispute over the delayed project after Iran notified the country of its intention to take the matter to the arbitration court next month, a move that could see Pakistan pay a hefty fine of over $18 billion.

Government officials revealed that Pakistan is prioritizing a negotiated settlement through diplomatic channels to avert a potential crisis.

Authorities cautioned against media speculation regarding potential penalties, warning that such reports could be used to Pakistan's detriment.

They emphasized that Iran has not made any specific financial demands, urging the media to refrain from unfounded conjecture that could harm national interests.

While the country maintains a strong legal position, the specific details of the notice remain confidential due to treaty obligations.

Pakistan has previously pushed for swift construction of its portion of the pipeline, but it has been facing challenges due to US sanctions on Iran.

Diplomatic efforts to resolve the dispute are currently underway.
