Fire at Energy Transfer’s Texas LNG Pipeline Affects Thousands of Residents and Businesses
A massive fire erupted at an Energy Transfer natural gas liquid (NGL) pipeline on Monday and continues to burn, causing widespread disruption in the area.
The fire, which occurred at a valve station on a 20-inch pipeline, led to the evacuation of nearby residents and businesses and caused power outages for thousands.
While no serious injuries have been reported, the incident has had significant environmental and economic consequences.
Energy Transfer said the pipeline was isolated to allow residual product to burn off safely. However, the company acknowledged that the fire could continue as they work to extinguish the flames and prevent further damage.
The Texas Railroad Commission (RRC) has launched an investigation into the cause of the fire and is working closely with emergency responders on the scene. The RRC has confirmed that Energy Transfer is "blowing down" the remaining gas in the pipeline section to expedite the process.
Impacted landowners are being provided with lodging and support as evacuation orders remain in place. Energy Transfer has committed to assisting those affected by the incident until the situation is under control.
