Municipal utility Stadwerke Stuttgart has secured approval to build a hydrogen production plant, marking a significant step toward a greener energy future, with construction expected to begin in early 2025.

As part of the Green Hydrogen Hub Stuttgart (GH2S) project, the plant will produce up to 1,000 tons of hydrogen annually using four electrolyzers powered exclusively by renewable energy sources.

The plant will be connected to a pipeline network, allowing hydrogen distribution to various customers, including buses, heavy-duty vehicles, and research institutions.

The hydrogen produced will be transported via the GeNeSiS H2 pipeline, financed by the EU and the Baden-Württemberg Ministry for the Environment and Climate.

Leveraging advanced technologies like digital twins and AI control, the plant aims to optimize production efficiency and meet the growing demand for green hydrogen.

Stuttgart, known as a hub for mobility research and development, is well-positioned to benefit from this new facility, with companies like Mercedes, Porsche, and Bosch already active in the region.

Construction of the plant is expected to begin in early 2025, with operations slated for late 2026.
