Exxon Mobil and Air Liquide have announced an agreement to collaborate on the production of low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia at Exxon's Baytown, Texas facility.

Air Liquide, an industrial gas supplier, will construct and operate four large modular air separation units at the Baytown plant.

These units will provide 9,000 metric tons of oxygen and 6,500 metric tons of nitrogen daily to support the production of low-carbon hydrogen and ammonia.

Exxon's planned hydrogen production facility is expected to be the world's largest, generating 1 billion cubic feet of low-carbon hydrogen and over 1 million tons of ammonia annually.

The project also includes capturing more than 98% of carbon dioxide emissions.

According to Exxon, utilizing Air Liquide's existing pipeline network to transport low-carbon hydrogen could foster the development of a low-carbon hydrogen market along the U.S. Gulf Coast.
