After nearly two weeks of spewing out an estimated approximately 778 million standard cubic meters of toxic methane gas from three separate ruptures in the Nord Stream 1 & 2 lines on the Baltic Sea floor, the Danish Energy Agency said yesterday that the leaks have finally stopped.

A $6.6 billion natural gas Mountain Valley Pipeline long advocated by Democratic U.S. Senator Joe Manchin in his home state of West Virginia is facing bipartisan resistance on Capital Hill and will not be afforded preferential treatment.

Germany has begun to nationalize gas importer Uniper in the wake of an energy crisis that has left the government of Europe's top economy with few other options to keep its industry going.

Germany is set to buy Fortum's (FORTUM.HE) 78% stake in Uniper and inject a further 8 billion euros ($8 billion US) into the energy group that is expected to give Berlin a stake of more than 90%.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz raised hopes last week when he championed the construction of a gas pipeline connecting the Spanish and French gas grids.  Scholz said such a pipeline would help wean Europe away from its reliance on Russian energy.

France and Germany have agreed to reactivate a gas pipeline originally built for east to west flows to help each other over the approaching European winter.

Plans are taking shape:  LNG pipeline link should be ready before the end of 2022.
