TC Energy Corporation announced Wednesday through a press release that it will appeal a Delaware court decision assigning it half the responsibility for $398.4 million in damages awarded to stockholders of Columbia Pipeline Group.

According to the release, the lawsuit stemmed from TC Energy's 2016 acquisition of Columbia Pipeline.

The Delaware Chancery Court previously ruled that Columbia's former CEO and CFO breached their fiduciary duties and that TC Energy aided in those breaches. However, TC Energy maintains the court made errors in its decisions and that the ruling departs from established Delaware law.

The company's share of the damages reportedly comes to $199.2 million, plus an estimated $179.5 million in interest.

TC Energy will appeal the decision to the Delaware Supreme Court and expects the process to conclude by mid-2025. Meanwhile, the company will post a bond to avoid paying the damages award while the appeal proceeds.
