Polish Oil Pipeline Leak Disrupts Supply, But No Shortages Expected
An oil leak in a pipeline in Western Poland had forced the operator, PERN, to temporarily halt operations on one of its branches. Despite the disruption, PERN assured customers that oil supplies would remain unaffected.
The damaged branch of the Druzhba pipeline, which transports oil to German refineries, was immediately shut down after the leak was discovered, with no risk posed to local residents.
Following the shutdown, PERN emphasized that the remaining operational branch has the “technical capabilities” to fully meet the demands of its customers as an internal committee investigates the cause of the incident.
Meanwhile, the company had initiated repair work on the damaged section of the pipeline, located beneath a road, and assured that neither oil supplies nor road traffic will be impacted by the ongoing repairs.
