ONE Gas Announces Major Natural Gas Pipeline Project for Southeast Oklahoma
U.S. interstate natural gas distributor ONE Gas, Inc. has announced plans to construct a 43-mile, large-diameter natural gas pipeline in southeast Oklahoma.
Announced on Thursday, December 18, the infrastructure project, estimated to cost between $150 million and $160 million, is aimed at boosting regional energy reliability and fueling economic growth.
ONE Gas officials stated the company will invest approximately $120 million in the initiative, which will be installed and operated by its local division, Oklahoma Natural Gas.
The new line will connect the Bennington Natural Gas Hub to the Western Farmers Electric Cooperative (WFEC) Hugo Plant located near Fort Towson. Once operational, the infrastructure is expected to deliver more than 100 billion cubic feet of natural gas annually.
According to the company, this delivery capacity will support 400 megawatts of natural gas-fired power generation by 2029.
The project serves as the first phase of WFEC’s long-term resource plan to modernize and stabilize the region’s energy supply.
Construction is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2028.
The timeline ensures the Hugo Plant can meet its 2029 generation targets, providing a steady energy source for the growing demands of the Oklahoma power grid.
