Subsea7 announced Tuesday it has been awarded a "substantial" contract by Chevron Australia to support the third stage of the Gorgon natural gas project, including gas supply pipelines offshore Western Australia.

The contract, which the company values between $150 million and $300 million, focuses on the subsea installation for Gorgon Stage 3.

This phase of development aims to maintain future gas supply through pipelines to the existing subsea gas infrastructure and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant on Barrow Island.

Under the terms of the agreement, Subsea7 will oversee project management, engineering, and procurement.

The scope also includes the fabrication, transportation, and installation of subsea equipment at the site, which sits at a water depth of approximately 1,350 meters.

"This project marks an important milestone and reinforces our long-term strategic engagement with Chevron," said David Bertin, Senior Vice President for Subsea7’s Global Projects Centre East.

Engineering and management efforts are scheduled to begin immediately at Subsea7’s Perth office, with the local team set to receive technical support from the company’s international hubs in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and Paris to execute the complex deepwater requirements.

The Gorgon project is one of the world's largest natural gas developments, including subsea gas flow pipelines, tie-ins to the existing pipeline and other related infrastructure.

The latest expansion is a critical component of Chevron’s efforts to sustain production levels for the Australian and international energy markets.

With the offshore operations slated to begin in 2028, Bertin emphasised that the company’s focus will remain on safety and technical integrity to optimise the reliability of the subsea infrastructure.

Subsea7’s latest contract award adds to the company’s list of offshore pipelines and gas development fields this year, with the most recent being the contract awarded to the company by Saudi Aramco
