McDermott Secures EPCIC Contract for Major Brunei Subsea Gas Field & Pipeline Development
McDermott International has been awarded a significant engineering, procurement, construction, installation, and commissioning (EPCIC) contract by PETRONAS Carigali Brunei Ltd. for a natural gas development project offshore Brunei Darussalam.
The contract covers one of the nation’s most substantial conventional gas initiatives, with a primary focus on delivering a vital gas export pipeline to bolster Brunei's liquefied natural gas (LNG) capabilities.
The award follows McDermott's recent successful completion of front-end engineering design (FEED), engineering optimization, and readiness planning for the project.
Under the comprehensive contract scope, McDermott will provide EPCIC services for the subsea production system and its associated infrastructure, including pipelines.
McDermott will also be responsible for the EPCIC of the export pipeline, designed to supply crucial natural gas feedstock directly to Brunei's established LNG sector to support the country's long-term export commitments.
Additionally, the project includes the construction of umbilicals, risers, and flowlines to connect six wells to a new floating production unit, which will facilitate the recovery of the natural gas.
"Transitioning from FEED to a full EPCIC award underscores McDermott's engineering excellence and proven ability to deliver complex subsea projects across the region," said Mahesh Swaminathan, McDermott's Senior Vice President, Subsea and Floating Facilities.
Swaminathan added that the collaboration reinforces their approach to "drive engineering value."
Project management will be directed from McDermott’s engineering center of excellence in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, with support from various other McDermott offices and project sites.
Upon completion, the gas project is projected to provide a long-term, stable supply of natural gas, strengthening Brunei’s domestic energy needs and key LNG exports.
