L&T Completes Major Gas Pipeline Section for Saudi Aramco’s Expansion Project
Indian engineering and construction firm Larsen & Toubro (L&T) announced Tuesday that it has completed a key segment of Saudi Aramco’s Master Gas System (MGS) Expansion Phase 3.
The company finished the engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) for a 120-kilometer stretch of 56-inch pipeline, part of the extensive MGS Package 8 project.
The MGS, one of the world's largest hydrocarbon networks, is undergoing a phased expansion to bolster Saudi Arabia’s domestic energy supply. This includes tapping into the kingdom's non-associated and unconventional gas reserves.
The completed pipeline segment is a component of this broader initiative, which also encompasses a new Booster Gas Compression Station to increase gas delivery across the country via the East-West Pipeline system.
In July 2025, Aramco secured $10 Billion BlackRock-Led Investment for Jafurah Gas Pipeline Network, which is part of the gas system expansion initiative.
L&T's work on the pipeline utilized advanced automated welding solutions from Dutch technology firm Qapqa, which reported a remarkably low repair rate of just 0.6%. This high-efficiency method helped ensure the integrity and rapid completion of the project.
Qapqa's teams are now mobilized on a subsequent 241-kilometer pipeline section to continue delivering high-quality welds.
Launched after Aramco awarded $8.8 billion in contracts in mid-2023, the full MGS-3 program aims to add 3.15 billion standard cubic feet per day (bscfd) by 2028.
This comprehensive expansion will involve the construction of approximately 4,000 kilometers of new pipelines and 17 gas compression trains, significantly enhancing the nation's energy infrastructure and boosting gas production.
