Kinder Morgan Proposes Major Gas Pipeline Expansion in CSRA

Kinder Morgan, one of the leading energy infrastructure companies offering a multibillion-dollar expansion, has proposed plans to expand its natural gas pipeline system in the Central Savannah River Area (CSRA).
The CSRA is an unofficially-recognized trading and marketing area covering 18 counties along the Savannah River:13 in the state of Georgia and 5 in South Carolina.
Dubbed South System 4, the pipeline expansion project will add roughly 290 miles of new pipe across three states and upgrade parts of the current infrastructure.
"This expansion is necessary to help meet the growing demand for natural gas in this region," said Allen Fore, Kinder Morgan vice president. "Not everyone gets direct natural gas service, but the project benefits all residents with helping the power grid."
The proposed expansion calls for 14 new pipelines, improvements to 13 compression stations, and four new meter systems.
However, some Jefferson County landowners opposed the plan due to the probable effect on their property plans. Kinder Morgan clarified that it holds such meetings for gathering information and addressing individual concerns.
"We are committed to working with landowners to minimize disruption and find mutually agreeable solutions," Fore said.
The company envisions that the project will be in service between 2028 and 2029 if approved.
