India, Sri Lanka and the United Arab Emirates have agreed to build a multi-product pipeline from India to Sri Lanka to ensure a reliable and affordable energy supply, according to a joint statement released Monday.

The pipeline is aimed at providing affordable and reliable energy to Sri Lanka.

As reported by The Print, the agreement was reached during a meeting on Monday between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake in New Delhi.

During the meeting, which is part of the three-day state visit that began on Dec. 15, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake discussed a range of issues, including energy cooperation.

The two leaders also agreed to accelerate the implementation of a solar power project in Sampur, Sri Lanka, and to expand its capacity as needed.

As part of the ongoing efforts to ensure energy security, the two heads of state also discussed liquefied natural gas (LNG) supplies from India to Sri Lanka, the establishment of a high-capacity power grid interconnection between the two countries, and collaboration on developing offshore wind power potential in the Palk Strait

The joint statement released after the meeting emphasized the importance of reliable and affordable energy for both countries.
