India’s Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas issued a firm denial on Monday, clarifying that the government is not considering any proposal for a deepwater energy pipeline connecting the Gulf region to India.

The statement, released through the Press Information Bureau (PIB) in New Delhi, aims to clear up widespread media speculation regarding a proposed subsea conduit linking the sultanate of Oman and other Middle Eastern nations to the coast of Gujarat.

"No such proposal is under consideration," the ministry stated, adding that there are no active discussions, studies or negotiations underway at any level within the government regarding a Middle East-India deepwater pipeline.

The official clarification follows several recent media reports claiming that plans for the cross-border hydrocarbon pipeline were actively being pursued.

Ministry officials noted that the inaccurate and premature reporting prompted the need for an authoritative public record to prevent misunderstandings among industry stakeholders and the general public.

According to government officials, international energy infrastructure projects of this magnitude require a rigorous, multi-step regulatory process.

This includes formal intergovernmental agreements, comprehensive technical and environmental feasibility studies, and coordination among multiple state and federal agencies. The ministry confirmed that none of these administrative or exploratory processes has been initiated.

The government emphasized that any legitimate cross-border pipeline proposal remains subject to established statutory guidelines, bilateral clearances and strict policy frameworks before India can make any official commitments.

The ministry concluded its statement by urging media outlets and the public to rely strictly on authenticated, official government channels for accurate information regarding national energy infrastructure and policy decisions.
