A pipeline explosion and fire at an offshore natural gas pipeline in Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish, has left a worker dead, authorities reported, adding that the incident was under investigation.

The Plaquemines Parish Sheriff’s Office said the explosion was reported late Saturday, with one person missing. The body of the worker, identified as Nichols, was later recovered, with no other injuries reported.

Although the pipeline was shut down, a fire continued to burn off the remaining gas in the line without posing a threat to the public, according to Air monitoring.

“The pipelines have been blocked, and one remains on fire, burning the remaining natural gas in the line. Air monitor readings were conducted, and there was no threat to the public. This incident remains under investigation,” the authorities also said.

There have been inaccurate reports that the pipeline is associated with Venture Global. The company operating the Plaquemines LNG facility and developing other projects in the area.

Venture Global released the following statement: “We are aware of media reports about an offshore pipeline event that occurred over an hour away from the Plaquemines LNG facility, and hope for the safety of anyone involved. This pipeline has no affiliation with Plaquemines LNG or any other Venture Global projects.”
