Italian energy infrastructure major Snam has awarded Corinth Pipeworks a substantial contract worth over EUR 10 million (US$ 10.5 million) to manufacture and supply approximately 13 kilometers of longitudinally submerged arc-welded steel pipes (LSAW), Corinth Pipeworks announced through a press release.

According to the release, the pipes will be used for the construction of an offshore and onshore natural gas pipeline that will serve the Floating Storage and Regasification Unit (FSRU) located in the port of Ravenna, with the 26-inch pipeline to be certified to transport up to 100% hydrogen, reflecting Corinth Pipeworks' commitment to cutting-edge technology and infrastructure.

The greenfield FSRU-based LNG terminal project represents a strategic initiative aimed at bolstering Italy's energy security and diversification efforts. With a capacity of 170,000 cubic meters and a nominal throughput of 5 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, the terminal will play a vital role in meeting the nation's energy demands.

This development aligns with the company's mission to provide forward-looking solutions for hydrogen certification in new pipelines, ensuring that steel pipes produced today will serve the energy mix of tomorrow.

Corinth Pipeworks will undertake the manufacturing of these advanced steel pipes at its state-of-the-art facilities, where they will receive both internal and three-layer polypropylene coatings, as well as concrete weight coating (CWC). All coating processes will be applied at the same location as the pipe manufacturing, situated in Thisvi, Greece.

This prestigious contract award to Corinth Pipeworks marks the latest collaboration between the company and Snam, supported by their Italian business partner, PIPEX.

The cooperation builds upon a successful long-term relationship and a series of earlier pipeline developments, underscoring the continued trust and confidence placed in Corinth Pipeworks by industry leaders.

As Italy moves forward with this crucial LNG terminal project, Corinth Pipeworks plays a critical role in delivering high-quality steel pipes that will contribute to the nation's energy security and the transition towards hydrogen-based energy solutions.
