Cenit, a subsidiary of Colombia's state-run energy company Ecopetrol, has suspended oil pumping operations for 12 days along the Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline due to recent attacks on the infrastructure, the company announced on Tuesday.

Reuters reported on Tuesday, March 28, that a series of bombings, including the latest on Monday, damaged the pipeline, leading to the suspension of pumping since March 16.

Ecopetrol also announced the suspension of gas transportation from the Gibraltar plant due to the attacks on the infrastructure.

The Monday attack in a rural zone of the Cubara municipality in Colombia's Boyaca province was the sixth this year, with military officials suggesting that guerrillas of the National Liberation Army and FARC dissidents could be involved.

The Cano Limon-Covenas pipeline, which runs along Colombia's northern border with Venezuela and can transport up to 210,000 barrels of oil per day, was attacked 13 times last year, leading to fires and contamination of the surrounding area.

A source at the company told Reuters the troops were securing the bombing site to repair the damage.

SierraCol, an oil company operating in Arauca province, stated that its operations had not been affected by the suspension of pumping along the pipeline. Parex, another oil company in Arauca, was unavailable for comment at the time of reporting.

Meanwhile, the resumption of operations will depend on the security of attacked sites by Colombia's military, according to a Cenit spokesman.
