Enbridge Inc. has announced that its Regional Oil Sands Pipeline System in Alberta, Canada will be expanded in order to better connect oil sands projects with regional hubs in Edmonton and Hardisty.

The projects involve the Athabasca Twin Project and the Wood Buffalo Extension Project. The Athabasca Twin will be expanded from 450 000 bpd to 800 000 bpd through additional pumping stations; the Wood Buffalo Extension will entail the construction of a 100 km segment and expanding the diameter from 30 - inch to 36 - inch.

The combined cost of the expansion is expected to cost approximately $2.6 billion.
