Cadent Gas Selects Jacobs for 90km East London Hydrogen Pipeline Project

Jacobs has been chosen by Cadent Gas on behalf of Capital Hydrogen to deliver the Pre-Front End Engineering Design (Pre-FEED) phase of the UK’s East London Hydrogen Pipeline (ELHP) project.
According to Capital Hydrogen’s announcement on Wednesday, the ELHP project will involve constructing a 56-mile (90-kilometer) pipeline through East London, connecting major industrial zones to a steady hydrogen supply.
This initiative is a crucial step in decarbonizing sectors such as transportation and power generation, contributing to global and regional energy transition efforts.
Capital Hydrogen, a collaboration between Cadent, SGN, and National Grid Gas Transmission, is spearheading a broader program to transition London's gas pipeline networks to hydrogen. The ELHP project has the potential to create skilled jobs, enhance energy independence, and offer consumers greater choice.
"Our hydrogen teams work collaboratively across geographies and sectors, turning transformational ideas into intelligent solutions to create a cleaner energy future for all," said Jacobs Vice President James Nash in a statement.
"This project builds on our longstanding relationship with Cadent and propels this crucial East London decarbonization project to benefit the community and industry in the area," he added.
Cadent Strategy Director Angela Needle, also added that the hydrogen project is essential for decarbonizing operations.
"By ensuring a secure and reliable supply of hydrogen, we are not only supporting the transition to a net-zero future but also helping to secure the long-term viability of these major employers, safeguarding and creating jobs, and driving economic growth in the region."
Following the completion of the Pre-FEED phase, the project will move forward to the full FEED phase, where final engineering designs will be developed in preparation for construction.
